There are 3 different participation classes in the Sasol Solar Challenge: challenger, cruiser and innovation with different rules and objectives. Vehicles competing in the challenger class are produced with a focus on durability and efficiency. Vehicles competing in the cruiser class are built for practicality and daily use. The vehicles in the innovation class are vehicles that are not in the other two classes and whose main purpose is not determined as competition. This class contributes to the realization of great innovations through other competing vehicles and brand new designs that challenge the way we think about the future of mobility.

The Sasol Solar Challenge brings together thousands of tech enthusiasts, future engineers and the South African public along the route.
