 Solaris project which is in Dokuz Eyl�l University, Engineering Faculty, Mechanical Engineering constitution has been formed to aim at researching solar energy usage which is very interesting in international area. Solaris takes its name from the word that means sun in Latin Language. Solaris team comes into being by academicians, entrepreneurs, researchers from license to doctorate level who come together for producing solar energy car. The reason of coming together of the team; to join this year third Solar Energy Car Races (Formula G) that TUBITAK pioneers and to attract attention to renewable energy resources’ usage.
Our Mission
Our project became student focused this year because of our academicians’ intensive study. Our decision and control mechanism completely constituted from students with our academicians’ trust about us. Voluntary students contribute to project in all areas; not only design and produce of the car but also taking decisions and managing the project. So Solaris Project became a student R&D Project. Apparently Solaris Project’s aim is joining the races and to be more successful every year but this project’s main aim is EDUCATION.
- In Mechanical Engineering education, to contribute students’ theoretical design and analyze education to practice, by joining production stages,
"So students get design and optimization abilities."
- University, industry, trade association together, in a problem solving with students, academicians, support associations and entrepreneurs cooperation, to obtain the synergy and the students to serve active in an important project,
"So students get professional growth, enterprising and with team spirit individuals can be educated."
Our Goals
- To introduce the solar energy which is one of the alternative energy sources and to find alternative solutions for energy troubles that may occur in the future,
- To produce a new technology car which can be used in scientific researches as using home product for all parts as possible as we can in our country’s condition,
- To produce solar energy cars which can race against the world’s prestigious universities in international races.
Solar Energy Car Races
The first solar energy car races organized in 1987 in Australia. They started with America and Australia but later both races and participants have increased. Nowadays the races that organized in all over the world, contribute to alternative energy sources searching.
We have joined all Formula G Races as SOLARIS TEAM from the year 2005.
Although our average speed is highest, we became 7th in concatenation in 2005.

After the redevelopments that we did, we finished the concatenations 3rd in 2006.
