Team - 2013

Who Are We

Team Solaris is a community of academicians, young investors and researchers from undergraduate to Ph.D. level, who gathered around the idea of designing/creating a car powered by solar energy in December 2003.

      The first decade is completed.

Started on behalf of the importance of implementation in engineering, 8th Generation Solaris Project continues with two-year plans.. Up to now, Solaris has been not just engineering implementations.. It is not just designing and manufacturing of nearly all parts of four solar vehicles but, what would be the next target has always been considered. 8th Generation Solaris Project will be a more difficult process, since the target of completing three successful races in one year is realized with Solaris 7. In 2013, in a very short time, that is nearly two months, Solaris 7 team completed three challenges on three different continents with three different vehicles. The motto of "We need to calculate, design and produce our own parts " that has been targeted in Solaris 1, needs to be go one step further after challenging in World Solar Challenge 2013 with a BLDC hub motor that was our own design and production. We have never targeted to get race results. We had numerous gains in the technical sense; however, in my opinion as the supervisor of the Solaris 7 project, the gains in social context were the greater ones. The solidarity and technical information sharing have been achieved not only within the team but also with our friend teams. It has been achieving ‘not me’, but ‘us’. In this context, 8th Generation Solaris Team will work harder with bigger goals with more unifying philosophy.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Aytaç GÖREN

Supervisor

Solaris has been continuing actively its studies and researches since 2004 and it grows every year which team up new volunteers from different departments. Our team includes three sub-groups there are Mechanical System Design and Manufacturing,Electronic System Design and Manufacturing, STOC (Sponsorship Promotion Organization and Corporate Affairs) and we make our studies and researches in this arrangement. In this way,our works will be carrying on more effective and controlled.

Human beings who do not want to have to give up living standards the must use of energy efficiently , make use of renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels. One of these sources is the sun.

Our team aware of this subject and has been developing on energy efficiency products.

Sub-group of Mechanical

I'm a student in industrial enginnering since 2011. The year that I beginning this university, ı was thinking about my future, then i saw a presentation and changed my life. I interest cars, mechanical systems, Formula 1, since i was a little boy, but i'm studying industrial engineering. First weeks of my university life, i was thinking maybe i decided wrong department or wrong university, then some friends show me a presentation about Solaris. At the and of the presentation, something from inside realised me that, Solaris what i wanted for my life. Solaris's aim, after hard researh&development process, tests and experiences, design and product most parts of cars, such as car body, suspension systems, brushless DC motor, MPPT, BMS, Telemetry, etc. by team's own strenght. Solaris is very succesfull team i think, and i'm proud of a part of this team.

Sub-group of Electronics

I am a member of the team since 2009. I have joined the team for learning about electrical vehicles and I had a wish for building my own electrical vehicle but I stayed in the team and continued my education in 9 Eylül University because of the sprit of this team and their trust to me. The maximum power point trackers (MPPTs) are designed by the team. The efficiency of the MPPTs are %94. The team also designed battery management system (BMS) and telemetry systems. Bms has the feature for balancing the cells. The telemetry system can transmit cell voltages, temperatures and the current of the battery pack and the Photovoltaics. Its range is about 2 kms.
